Handicapped Parking (“Orange”) (government issued handicap permit)

Southeast of Intersection of Algonquin & North Industrial.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57104

  • Air Show Guests-Only Air Show guests who have received and can display a valid “Handicapped Parking” (government issued handicap permit) authorized sticker will be allowed access to this Handicapped Parking area.  This lot is adjacent to the Sanford facility (previously known as the “Balance Systems” building, in the same location as prior Air Shows.  All “Handicapped” authorized vehicles are asked to approach this parking lot from the west, via Russell Avenue and Western Avenue to North Industrial Avenue.  The exit will then follow that course in reverse.  This routing is necessary as we do not want traffic to cross over “F” Avenue, which is reserved for all Bus Traffic and for Emergency Vehicles.  We ask your cooperation.
  • Loading Zone.    The loading zone will be established off of Industrial Avenue in the northern portion of the lot.
  • Expected Bus Route.  Buses will approach this parking from Blackhawk street, loading, and returning to the Air Field in a circular pattern.

Each Loading Zone will be established with two 10’x10’ tent (interior tables, chairs, and amenities/water), signage, and fencing.   In the near vicinity, there shall be 1-2 porta-pots and an appropriately sized waste disposal container.

At the Loading Zone, all shuttle passengers will be “pre-screened” for direct access to Joe Foss Field.  Accordingly, the following items are (by Federal regulations) restricted:  all weapons, alcohol, pets, duffel bags, backpacks, coolers, boom boxes, banners, and any item which compromises the safety or security of the air field.  Lawn chairs are allowed “subject to search).  It will be helpful if the lawn chairs are removed from their bags for examination; and then can be put back in bags for transport on to the Air Field.

Air Show Guests will be charged $3; children “5 and under” are free. (round-trip per day; correct change will be greatly appreciated!) to ride the shuttle bus (this covers the daily actual cost of the bus and driver).  As the charge is paid, each guest will be hand stamped with an appropriate lot “color” and “key word”; so as to facilitate an easy return to each guests’ original lot.

Bus Shuttles will run continuously from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (no shuttle service to the show after 3pm) on both Saturday (7/25/2009) and Sunday (7/26/2009).  Each bus can accommodate 50-70 passengers; and you should expect that the round trip time on the bus will involve 10-15 minutes in transit (each way).   All buses will approach Joe Foss Field from the West, primarily along Russell Street to the West Avenue intersection, and then through the Industrial Park/on North “F” Avenue.   Traffic flow at key intersections will be facilitated by the combined efforts of the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Minnehaha Sheriff’s Department, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.  Safety and Security at each lot and on the Air Field will be coordinated by members of the South Dakota Air National Guard.

Traffic along Algonquin Avenue will be “signed” and restricted to designated and authorized VIP, Vendors, Volunteers,  and/or Handicapped vehicles or individuals on Air Show days.  Vendor vehicles will be encouraged to delay their departures for one hour past the Show end time, to allow for the expected exit “crush” of attending guests.

Some limited parking may be available at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and Arena; but it will be “Park and Walk” from those locations, as no Shuttle Service is planned from those sites to the Air Field.

Industrial Park Companies and Business.  Traffic in this sector during Air Show days will be closely monitored by the Sioux Falls PD and Traffic Control in an effort to facilitate parking and crowd control.  Air Show guests and patrons are requested to avoid usage of “F” Avenue, which is reserved for Emergency Vehicles and/or Bus Traffic.  Companies and Businesses within the Industrial Park are encouraged to avoid off-site parking, Saturday deliveries, and un-necessary road restrictions during the days of the Air Show, since we anticipate the ingress and egress of some 125,000-150,000 people during the two days of Air Show 2009
